There are two variations: continuous or intermittent. The continuous variant involves constantly feeding the parison to mold and cutting it off with a blade on cooling. The intermittent variant expels the molded part before inserting a new parison, making it cost-effective and efficient.
This combines injection and blow molding processes. The process starts with making a solid pre-form using injection molding. Afterward, a machine heats the pre-form and blows air into it to achieve the final hollow shape.
The most distinctive difference is that blow molding is suitable for hollow parts (bottles, fuel tanks, coolers), while injection molding is applicable for making solid parts (bottle caps, hair combs, housings).
Injection molding provides rigid walls for structural components, whereas blow molding focuses on flexible or structural hollow products.
